Science Curriculum Selection Update
You may remember from the fall newsletter, one of the curriculum focuses for the 2017-2018 school year is reviewing the needs of our science department K-12. The committee has committed many hours to reviewing potential new curriculum materials in an effort to find the best fit for the staff and students at FCS.
The next steps for the committee will be to attend presentations from the companies that have made it through the first round of the review process. Following these presentations, the group will narrow the options down and have information on them available for public review on the Fostoria City Schools webpage. Look for these items to be posted in January. The committee welcomes your feedback, the goals of this new adoption will be to provide the resources necessary to best meet the needs of our students for the 2018-2019 school year and beyond.
New Digital Resource Launched for Preschool Learning
Ohio’s parents and educators have a new resource to help learners ages 3-5 prepare for school and their futures. The easy-to-navigate INFOhio Early Learning Portal contains more than 50 websites and apps chosen and evaluated by educators and librarians with expertise in early learning and literacy.
The INFOhio Early Learning Portal helps preschool children:
- Learn letters, numbers and basic knowledge;
- Interact with other children and adults;
- Engage in meaningful play; and
- Develop focus and problem-solving skills.
Each resource supports Ohio’s Early Learning and Development Standards for school readiness. Parents and educators also will find tips on integrating appropriate technology into preschool children’s learning. Adults can join children in using the digital resources when they play games, watch videos, or read and listen to e-books.
The INFOhio Early Learning Portal is a partnership of INFOhio, the Ohio Department of Education, Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and the Office of Gov. John Kasich. Nearly all resources in the portal are free, with a few available for a minimal fee.
