Programs |
| |
| Fostoria Community Schools offers an
Integrated Preschool Program. The program operates in
accordance with the Ohio Department of Education, following
rules and regulations set forth in the Ohio Administrative Code
Chapter 3301-37, and 3301-31. The purpose of the
program is to provide an enriched environment that will foster
learning, exploring and peer involvement. Related Services
are offered, as needed, either in the direct setting, or on an
individual basis. The child centered curriculum that is also play-based, focuses on
growth, addresses not only cognitive areas, but also recognizes the
physical, social, emotional and communication needs and overall development
of the preschooler, enabling them to reach their full potential.
The program also includes an Itinerant unit, whereby services are
delivered in a variety of locations. This teacher serves students
in the general education kindergartens as well, following their IEPs
and ensuring success as they transition into regular education. She
participates in design and implementation of the plan that is designed
for a student, and may deliver services where the student is currently
enrolled in preschool. |

K-12 Programs |
| |
| Our buildings in Fostoria are configured as K-1 (Longfellow); Grades
2-3 (Field); Grades 4-5 (Riley); Grades 6-8 (Fostoria Middle School);
and Grades 9-12 (Fostoria High School). Our special needs students
attend each of these buildings with their same age and grade peers.
Whenever possible, students attend regular education classrooms with
accommodations in their learning. They receive specialized instruction
both within a regular classroom setting and in resource classrooms
by certified staff. It is our goal to provide children with disabilities
the best conditions for learning within our school system. The State
of Ohio adopted new Operating Standards July 1, 2002. These Standards
provide the opportunity to focus on ensuring that all children with
disabilities have available a free appropriate public education that
emphasizes specially designed instruction to meet their unique needs. |
