Schools
LPDC Information
2007-2008 School Year
1. If you are on a permanent teaching certificate, you do not need
to submit forms to LPDC. However, please do keep copies of all of your
professional development activities.
2. You need to only submit one Individual Professional Development
Plan (IPDP) plan per certificate/licensure cycle. Remember that you
may change this plan at any time providing you get the change approved by
the LPDC. Please remember for your IPDP to be current, it must be
filed after renewing your most recent licensure/certificate and approved by
the LPDC after the issue date of your most recent credential. Please
remember that NO professional development counts without an IPDP in place,
that has been approved by the Fostoria Community Schools LPDC or a previous
district, prior to engaging in the professional development for which you
would like credit. there is a rubric available to help you develop
your IPDP goals in the standards book from the ODE. Copies are also
available from Sherry Riley. You will need to complete the rubric
prior to writing your goals. If you need assistance in writing your
IPDP goals, please contact Sherry Riley to make an appointment.
3. Check with the checklist in the LPDC booklet with the purple
cover which you were given last school year 2006-2007, to see if a
pre-approval form is required. Pre-approval means that you need to
submit the forms prior to the event for which you would like the LPDC
to grant credit. If you are not sure whether or not you need to submit
a pre-approval form, please go ahead and submit on. (If in doubt -
please pre-approve!) Remember that all activities that you are
seeking LPDC credit for must reflect your IPDP goals. Please
submit all pre-approval forms to Sherry Riley at the middle school.
You may also access the LPDC information and forms on-line at our district
website. Go to Teacher Resources and then click on LPDC.
4. There are some upcoming changes in LPDC. recently you
received a standards book from the Ohio Department of Education (ODE).
These same standards are listed in draft form in your LPDC booklet and on
the district website under LPDC. All LPDCs are now being asked to
evaluate professional development by way of these standards. The LPDCs
need to look at which teacher/principal standard(s) the professional
development addresses (You are asked to do this on our pre-approval form).
Further, all professional development will be revaluated by using the
professional development standards. All professional development must
meet these standards to be approved. These standards can be accessed
also at the ODE website. Furthermore, the ODE is asking all districts
to evaluate the types of activities that receive credit. Starting next
school year, 2008-2009, informational meetings are not considered
professional development unless there is a way to gauge teacher learning and
they are on-going. Also technology in-services in and among themselves
will not be considered professional development. They can easily lead
to professional development though.
5. When it is time to renew your license, you can begin the renewal
process after Jan. 1 of the year you need to renew. Our LPDC would
like to have all renewals in by May because it cant ake the ODE eight weeks
or more to process renewals. Please remember that for every licensure
renewal you need a BCI (fingerprint) check. If you do not do the BCI,
the ODE will hold your renewal for 60 days and then return it to you.
You need a valid teaching license to be in the classroom.
6. If you have any
questions, please contact an LPDC committee person.
