CHORAL DEPARTMENT

Welcome to the Fostoria Junior-Senior High School Choral Department!  Music Education is very much valued here in Fostoria and has a rich history and tradition!  We encourage you to peruse the calendar and find a date that works for you and come on out to see a music event and support the musical arts here in Fostoria!

The Choral Department is made up of 4 choirs:

The Concert Choir meets 1st period and is a non-auditioned choir.  Students are encouraged to join this ensemble if they’re new to the high-school, or new to singing. Basic musicianship skills, sight-singing, and four-part singing are introduced.

The Chamber Choir is the Auditioned Ensemble for the High School. Students are selected for this ensemble-based off of the teacher and peer recommendation, as well as: Sight-reading ability, knowledge of musicianship skills, and a passion for singing! This choir focuses on sight-reading, learns all styles of music, and prepares for OMEA Large Group Contest and will perform regularly throughout surrounding communities at numerous events.

The Junior High Choir is made up of 7th and 8th-grade singers.  No audition is necessary although the students have to recommended by their elementary music teacher in order to be accepted as a 7th grader. In JH Choir, students begin with the basics of solfege, sight-singing, and music reading. Students will also learn various styles of music.

The Tribe is an After-School group made up of 17 members. The Tribe is considered the highest level of difficulty in terms of responsibility, music, and reputation. Students will also compete in the Solo and Ensemble contest as well as performing regularly and frequently.
