Jr. High Science teachers Emily Loyd had their 8th graders choose a scientific experiment, engineering project, or research topic to present at this year's science fair. The teachers are so proud of their students' hard work and pushing through a long process! Top results are as follows:
1st place: Morrigan Flinders and Landan Sherman for their experiment on the amount of soil affecting the growth of potted plants
2nd place: Braden Clouse and Sam Reitzke for their experiment on the color of food affecting the taste
3rd place: Briar Shaver and Jazmine Sheridan for their Crayon FLoat experiment

Travis Justice's 7th Grade Scientists were able to talk with scientists via Zoom through a program called "Skype a Scientist"! On Tuesday, May 16, the 4th period spoke with Jennie Atkins, Ph.D., Water & Atmospheric Resources Monitoring (WARM) Program Manager at the University of Illinois. On Wednesday, May 17, the first period spoke with Linda Stathoplos, Ph.D., retired Oceanographer from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Students were able to ask questions, discuss what we have been learning in class, and learn about the amazing things that science has to offer, along with its challenges. The students were immediately excited, engaged, and left with a new outlook on the world!

This time of year is busy, but it is exciting to see all of the year's hard work come to fruition. Yesterday was Jr. High awards, tonight was Vanguard's graduation, and tomorrow is the Senior Awards Banquet.

Check out the centroid projects our geometry classes worked on!
