Parent Cafés create a friendly space for families to meet, learn, and grow together. These events aim to strengthen family resilience by focusing on important areas like social connections, parenting skills, and children's emotional development.
Each Parent Café consists of three sessions, where families can enjoy refreshments, participate in discussions, and connect with other parents. Participants gain a better understanding of protective factors, feel a sense of community, and have the chance to make lasting friendships.
Fostoria City Schools will hold Parent Cafés at Legacy Hall in the Central Office on the following Tuesdays from 4 PM to 5:30 PM; 10/15/24, 10/29/24, 11/12/24. These free events provide childcare, snacks, and a chance to win a grocery gift card. Families who attend all three sessions may also have a chance to receive an extra gift card.

During the 2022-2023 school year, Ohio had more than 16,500 students in foster care. These kids face special challenges, such as frequent moves and added trauma, which affect their education. To help these students, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) provides support like appointing a Foster Care Education Liaison, ensuring school stability when needed, and allowing for quick enrollment and record transfers.
Foster Care Education Liaisons are essential in helping students get the academic and other services they require. At Fostoria City Schools, we are dedicated to assisting our foster care students by offering them the stability and resources they need.
Our Foster Care Education Liaison works to help coordinate with custodial agencies, ensure correct identification in EMIS, facilitate record transfers and immediate enrollment, and advocate for students to fully participate in school activities.

- Address specific worries with your child
- Practice role-playing and taking control of worrisome situations
- Be aware of your own behavior and words
- Take the time to discuss feelings and worries as a family
For kindergartners, establish a goodbye routine to ease fears. For adolescents, these strategies can help kick off the school year on a positive note:
- Keep homework enjoyable and positive
- Listen to your child and assist them in finding solutions
- Foster independence and a growth mindset
- Connect schoolwork to real-world events and future aspirations
